A BNP delegate meets US envoy to Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller at BNP chief`s Dhanmondi offices  on Tuesday (Dec 18).The US wants a free, fair and participatory election in Bangladesh, its envoy in Dhaka says.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with senior BNP leaders at the party chief’s Gulshan offices on Tuesday (Dec 18), Ambassador Earl Robert Miller said, “The US always encourages free, fair, participatory peaceful election and we want every citizen (of Bangladesh) participates in democratic process.”
Urging all political parties to campaign peacefully, he said, “We have learned about the violence centering election campaigns.
All parties should shun violence and we condemn any kind of violence,” he said.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media that they have discussed the “present polls atmospheres” with the US envoy.
“They (US) want to see fair and violence-free election,” he said before adding, “The US also hoped that the opposition will be able to campaign safely.”
BNP Standing Committee members Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, BNP chief’s Advisor Shafi Uddin Ahmed were also present at the meeting.
