Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was addresing a media briefing. FILE PHOTOAt least 150 BNP candidates have been attacked ahead of 11th Parliamentary Election, alleged the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

“Two of the party candidates to contest with ‘paddy sheaf’ have been put behind bars,” Rizvi told the media on Saturday (Dec 15).

“The government has created legal complexities to bar Khaleda Zia and some other candidates from the polls,” he added.

“Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Dr Kamal’s motorcades have been attacked and the party candidates also have been fired at by the law enforcing men.”

Rizvi also lashed out over the case filed against Dr Kamal Hossain, adding that filing such a case against Dr Kamal is an insult given that he was the head of the country’s constitution drafting committee.

“Him (Dr Kamal) lashing out at the journalists becomes an issue. But when the PM’s advisor HT Emam lashes out at the journalists saying things such as, ‘why do you ask questions like BNP or are you Moudud’ then that’s okay?” Rizvi asked.

Rizvi accused the prime minister of holding one sided power and setting her party cadres loose to destroy other political forces.

Terming the ruling political party and Election Commission as ‘two peas in a pod’, Rizvi said, “The comments and activities of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda have provoked the police to increase their oppression on the opposition.

Rizvi also said that they are very much hopeful over the upcoming polls, and added that the undemocratic political party will be defeated and the autocratic government will be demolished given people get to vote.
