BNP has been making many excuses as part of its plan to foil the upcoming national election as the party is afraid of suffering a defeat, says Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
“The government want to hold a free and fair election and we (AL) sincerely want the BNP to join in it and not boycott it by placing false allegation,” he said on Friday (Nov 30).
Quader spoke to the media at AL’s president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi offices in the city.
Referring to BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remarks on the mass arrest of his party activists, Quader said, “People, who were arrested over the (Nov 14) clash at Naya Palatan, are listed criminals.”
Dismissing the claim on ruling party provoking for chaos, the senior AL leader said, “BNP has started foiling the (polls) atmosphere.”
Asked whether BNP would finally join the polls, Quader said, “We want a competitive election.
“We don’t want the BNP, a major political party, to not boycott the polls as they did in the last national polls.”
“We want BNP to participate in the all-inclusive, free, fair and credible election,” said Quader, who is the road transport minister.
