There’s continuous drama in politics over BNP and Jamaat regarding the allocation of symbols over the 11th National Elections.
On Tuesday (Nov 27), it was decided that Jamaat candidates will compete under sheaf of paddy of BNP. However, some reliable sources say that this decision may change.
On Nov 18 last, Jamaat sent 50 candidates to BNP. Several Jamaat sources say that they had plans to compete as independent candidates. But later, Jamaat was advised to compete under BNP’s symbol.
BNP’s standing committee member, barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, said, “Jamaat candidates will take part in elections under the sheaf of paddy.”
Meanwhile, Jamaat’s Naebe Ameer Mia Golam Parwar told Bangla Tribune, “I am not aware of the matter though we will take part in elections together.”
Reportedly, some allies of the Oikya Front are against the idea of Jamaat using the sheaf of paddy.
Some Oikya Front leaders feel that if Jamaat is given the chance to compete under sheaf paddy then AL may use it during election time to link with Jamaat’s inglorious Independence War role and carry a damaging political campaign.
