Plot to rig polls hatching at police headquarters: BNP PHOTO/FOCUS BANGLAThe BNP has blamed police of plotting to rig the 11th Parliamentary Election in a favour of the ruling Awami League.
“Our confidential sources tell us that a senior officer, who carried out a blueprint for the 2014 general election, is once again plotting at the Police Headquarters to ensure AL’s victory,” Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamagir told the media on Tuesday (Nov 20).
Speaking at the party chief’s Gulshan offices, “We demanded the conspiring officer to withdrawn lines or transferred from the headquarters.”
The senior BNP leader, however, did not disclose the officer’s identity.
Demanding reshuffle in police, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The police’s roles during the previous city polls were controversial.”
He urged the Election Commission to create a level playing field. “If the EC doesn’t do so and police don’t stop rampant arrests, then the election won’t be a credible one,” he said.
In reply to a query, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Unlike previous times, no raids against illegal arms are being carried out this year.
“The EC itself apparently has vowed that it will not hold a fair election.”
As many as 269 aspirants for 36 parliamentary seats in Chattaogram division have been interviewed on Tuesday, Mirza Fakhrul informed.
