The Election Commission (EC) will take bold steps to conduct the 11th Parliamentary Election in a free and fair manner as the EC now works under the President’s jurisdiction, says Bikalpa Dhara chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
Chowdhury, who also leads Jukto Front, demanded the polls scheduled be deferred for a week.
Speaking at a programme in the city on Friday (Nov 9), Chowdhury said, “The President, as well as the EC, will be held responsible (in future) if they did not work in line with the Constitution.
“There is no hurry over conducting the polls,” he said before urging the EC to hold a free and fair election.
“Wheather Parliament is dissolved or its members hold no power to enact laws the level playing field must be ensured,” said Chowdhury, who is a former president.
He demanded mobile court during the next national election saying, “Deploy army and Border Guard Bangladesh.”
“During previous elections, polling agents faced arrested and were ousted from the centres that shouldn’t repeat this time,” said Chowdhury.
