JP against EVM’s, wants army as strike force

Jatiya Party-led United National Alliance (UNA) had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), KM Nurul Huda, on Wednesday at the Election Commission Bhaban in capital’s Agargaon.Jatiya Party-led United National Alliance (UNA) has asked the Election Commission (EC) not to defer the announcement of schedule for the next general election.
“Dialogue between the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance and other parties will end today (Wednesday). So there is no need to defer the announcement of the election schedule,” Jatiya Party Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader said after a meeting with EC on Wednesday (Nov 7).
Jatiya Party placed eight-point demands including deployment of the army as a striking force during the election, not using electronic voting machines (EVM).
“People are not yet familiar with EVMs. More experiments are required before introducing this technology,” Ruhul added.
Earlier, a 16-member United National Alliance (UNA) delegation led by Jatiya Party Chairman, HM Ershad, had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), KM Nurul Huda, that began at 11:15am on Wednesday at the Election Commission Bhaban in capital’s Agargaon.
Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Presidium Members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, MA Sattar and Sunil Shubho Roy were among the delegation. On the other hand, apart from the CEC, four other commissioners and Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin have also attended the meeting.
