Obaidul Quader. FILE PHOTOAwami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that they are prepared for the upcoming national election while their party-led government is in an upbeat mood.

He made the comments to media on Monday (Nov 5) at the Secretariat in the capital.

Quader also said, “We already accepted two, three demands made by Oikya Front and Jukto Front. For example, they wanted foreign polls-observer which we agreed as we have no problem with it.”

However, he added that it’s the Election Commission’s (EC) decision and the government won’t oppose if the EC chooses to bring in foreign observers.

“We are also ready to create a level playing field, which is one of their demands,” said Quader before adding, “The ministers including the premier will not avail any extra facilities other than security during the election period and they will not use National Flags in their vehicles.”

When asked if the parliament will be dissolved as the opposition parties have demanded, Quader replied, “India and England don’t need dissolving of parliament during their election. So, why does Bangladesh have to do it differently?”

“We have accepted the Jukto Front’s demand of keeping the Parliament inactive, which will strip the MP’s off their powers,” added the road transport minister.
