The Jatiya Oikyo Front will send a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday seeking a second round of talks over the upcoming general elections.
The decision came from the newly formed coalition meeting on Saturday at its leader Dr Kamal Hossain’s Motijheel offices, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said after emerging from the meeting.
“During the Nov 1 talks with prime minister, it was said that further discussions can happen over the Jatiya Oikya Front’s seven-point demands. In light of that, a decision has been taken to send a letter tomorrow morning,” he said.
The Oikya Front has already written to the Election Commission urging to defer the announcement of the polls schedule until the political talks end, said the BNP leader adding that the letter to the PM will also mention that.
The leadership of the newly floated alliance held the meeting to plan the next course of programmes to hold the next general election in light of its seven-point demand.
It’s the first meeting of Oikya Front top brass after the Ganabhaban talks on Nov 1.
Earlier in the day, the coalition handed over a letter to the Election Commission urging it not to announce the schedule for the 11th parliamentary election until end of the ongoing dialogue.
