Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has written back to Jatiya Oikya Front inviting the newly-formed alliance to a dialogue on Thursday (Nov 1) in her official residence Ganobhaban.
Awami League Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap handed over the PM’s invitation to Oikyo Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain at 7:50am on Tuesday (Oct 30).
“Prime Minister has received a letter sent by Dr Kamal Hossain which called for a dialogue. She has responded to that call for the sake of holding a free and fair election,” said Golap after handing over the letter to Hossain at the Gano Forum Chief’s Baily Road residence.
Gano Forum General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu said, “Prime minister has responded to our call for a dialogue to hold the next election free and fair. We will extend our help in that regards if we are asked.”
“We will discuss our 7 demands and 11 visions and fifteen members will represent the Oikya front in the dialogue,” added Montu.
In her letter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “To ensure the democratic trend, which was achieved through immense struggle and sacrifice, my door is always open for discussions on all issues according to the Constitution.”Hasina, also the ruling Awami League President, invited the Oikya Front at 7pm on Nov 1 at the Gonobhaban for the dialogue the alliance sought.
Montu said that Dr Kamal, one of the key writers of the Constitution will lead the Front’s delegation.
“We urge the prime minister to save the country from the ongoing crisis,” added the Gano Forum leader.
He later read out the prime minister’s letter to the journalists.
On Oct 28, Jatyia Oikya Front wrote to the Awami League calling the ruling party to hold a dialogue.
The alliance sent two separate letters, signed by its leader Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain, to the AL President and General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Abdus Sobhan Golap received the letters on the party’s behalf.
