Soon after the new political coalition threatened to bring the government to justice, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and her ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy shrugged it off saying that the people have elected Awami League to the office.
“Awami League is a democratic organisation and it has come to power only through the people’s vote. Not by might,” he said on Saturday.
“We do not care these threats by so-called civic society representatives. It’s not only my belief, but opinion poll says the people of Bangladesh will vote for the Awami League,” Joy said while addressing a seminar at a Dhaka hotel.
His remarks came soon after new political coalition Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain said in a Chattogram rally that the ruling party will have to face trial in future if it does not accept their seven-point demand for a free, fair and inclusive national election.
Bangladesh, which has graduated to mid-income state from a developing nation, now needs to be saved from “the terrorist outfit BNP”, said Joy.
“The Oikya Front sole objective is to safeguard and rehabilitate the BNP. Just like Ziaur Rahman (BNP founder) rehabilitated war criminals, the so-called civic people are now on to rehabilitate Tarique Rahman. Is that what we want? Do we want to see the killer of Aug 21 Tarique Rahman as the prime minister in future? It seems that the civic people want that, but we won’t let it happen,” said Awami League chief Hasina’s son.
He said Bangladesh will never harbour killers and terrorists as long as the people vote for Awami League.
“We have tried the war criminals, killers of Bangabandhu. The Aug 21 attack verdict has been given and it will be executed. We will bring back Tarique Rahman to face justice, it’s our promise.”
Joy, now a member of the Awami League’s core committee on election affairs, claimed that the opposition was trying to threaten the government over the polls.
“The country is marching forward, its people are in peace and prosperity. Awami League now fears no one. We are here today after foiling all conspiracies. It’s not easy to topple the Awami League.”
