Awami League will banish those looking to contest the elections as rebels, warns the party chief Sheikh Hasina.
“Everyone has to support the party-nominated candidates,” she said during a joint meeting at her Gonobhaban residence on Friday (Oct 26).
“They might have gotten away with contesting the nominations in the past but it will not be tolerated anymore,” she added.
Hasina reiterated that she has received reports on all the nomination aspirants and is thoroughly going through each of them.
The Prime Minister also said that her party’s executive parliamentary body has been given instructions to handle the applications of the political parties aspiring to join the ruling AL Alliance.
She urged members of the 14-Party Alliance to refrain from making any comments about the Allama Shafi led Qawmi Alems that would endanger their friendly ties.
“We were able to clear the misconceptions the Qawmi Alems had about AL and hope to secure their votes in the elections,” she said.
During the meeting, 15 committees were formed to oversee the party activities for the national election.
A core committee comprising of presidium and advisory council members was formed to monitor the activities of these 15 committees.
The PM's son and her ICT Affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy has also been made a member of the core committee.
It was decided that the nominations for the constituencies will be finalized after discussions with the party allies once the election schedule is announced.
