Khaleda Zia (File Photo)The BNP has once again urged the government for moving its jailed Chairperson Khaleda Zia to the capital’s United Hospital for treatment under her personal doctors.
The call came on Sunday after a meeting between two senior party leaders and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
“The BNP chairperson is seriously and she is not getting proper treatment,” said Nazrul Islam Khan, who sits on the party’s policymaking National Standing Committee.
“We have requested the home minister to initiate proper measures and move her to the United Hospital,” he told the media after the meeting.
Around 11:30am, Khan and BNP Vice-Chairman Hafizuddin Ahmed entered the minister’s office for the meeting, which lasted for half an hour.
Home Minister Kamal told the media that the government will take all necessary measures for Khaleda’s treatment “in line with the jail code.”
“We will initiate steps upon consulting with specialist doctors,” he said.

He said then the decision was taken the previous night.
Following reports of Khaleda’s illness early this month, the government formed a medical board for her.
On Apr 7, the BNP chief was taken to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital for an X-ray and blood tests. The board said that the reports suggested that her condition was not serious.
The BNP, however, says that it has no confidence on the medical board.
