As part of the electoral preparations, work for the schedule is almost over with a draft nomination list prepared.
Awami League (AL) election sources say that before elections, information from voting centres is being analysed.
In September this year, a 137-member election committee was formed with Sheikh Hasina as chairman, HT Imam as co chairman and Obaidul Quader as member secretary.
Party sources say that AL president and PM Sheikh Hasina is working to finalise the nomination.
On the first week of the month, an election schedule forming committee was formed with Dr Abdur Razzaq as convener.
The other members are AL advisory panel members, HT Imam, Dr Mashiur Rahman, Dr. Anupam Sen, former Vice Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique, former VC of Bangladesh Agriculture University Abdul Mannan and others.
Dr Abdur Razzaq said, “The work for the schedule is almost finalised and will be published soon.”
On Monday last, Obaidul Quader said in a press conference that the schedule may be declared any day after 26 October.
AL-led 14-party Alliance spokesperson, Mohammad Nasim, said, “A decision has been taken not to take any party in the alliance but those who expressed an interest may be taken in the election time pact.
If BNP comes then AL, Jatiya Party (Ershad), 14 parties and others will form a grand alliance, he observed.
“If BNP does not come then parties will take part in elections separately.”
A number of smaller parties like Zaker Party, Trinomul BNP, Islami Front and others expressed a desire to join the 14-party Alliance as a leftist seven party pact.
Reportedly, leading leaders of the Zaker Party met Obaidul Quader and expressed their desire to join the alliance.
A decision on this matter may be taken at a rally to be held next Friday, say AL leaders.
