After the successful citizens meet aimed at national unity, related political parties now want to disseminate polls based demands across the country.
These partiers also want to take in BNP and there will be a meeting in this regard very soon.
In the meet, held on Sept 22, the leaders of the parties were unanimous in endorsing a call for the resignation of the government, ethical treatment of jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia plus fulfilment of the students’ demands or safe roads.
Efforts towards unity have made progress, said BNP secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Leading figure of the alliance, Dr Kamal Hossain, said: “we will now talk with other parties willing to join us about a strategy to take them to the masses.”
This is the first step, once this is achieved, we will declare a plan of action, added Dr Kamal.
Referring to the huge turnout of people for the grand rally, the veteran lawyer said: “people have come spontaneously, they want to see change.”
It’s believed that the joint front will hold another rally on Oct 1 in Chandpur and Mymensingh.
Nagorik Oikko leader, Zahed ur Rahman, told Bangla Tribune: “we have completed primary discussions and will finalise the programme at a meet of top leaders.”
On Sept 23, BNP standing committee members held important meetings at the party office. Sources say that they had a favourable disposition towards BNP’s participation at the citizens’ rally called by Dr Kamal Hossain.
Party acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has also expressed satisfaction.
At the Sunday meeting, a decision was taken to restructure BNP lawyers’ association.
Most senior leaders of the party: Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, barrister Jamiruddin Sirkar, barrister Moudud Ahmed, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr Moin Khan, Goyeshar Chandra Roy, advocate Khondokar Mahbub Hossain were present.
