Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul QuaderFormer Bangladesh chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha made fictitious claims in his book, says the ruling Awami League.
“He is not anymore the chief justice. The prefix former has been added to his post and certain regrets come with it which led him to make fictitious claims,” Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told the media on Thursday (Sept 19).
Responding to a query on former CJ Sinha’s new book “A Broken Dream: Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy”, Quader also said, “Everyone knows about the circumstances which led to him being a former CJ. Now, he is writing made up things while being abroad.”
“I don’t think it deserves any attention,” he added.
The senior AL leader also asked, “Why did he not have the courage to say the things he is claiming now?”
“His claims have no relevance whatsoever and the people of the country have no reason to believe any of it,” Quader said.
Sinha claimed in his book that he resigned in the face of intimidation and threats by the country’s military intelligence agency, Directorate General of the Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
“Finally, in the face of intimidation and threats to my family and friends by the country’s military intelligence agency called the Directorate General of the Defense Forces Intelligence (DGDFI), I submitted resignation from abroad,” Sinha wrote.
A DGFI spokesperson, however, refuted the claim.
“We are yet to read the book and trying to collect it. It’s better not to comment before reading it. But on behalf of the organisation, I can say it’s not our job to threaten anyone. We never do it,” Brigadier General Tanvir Mazhar Siddiqi, the director of DGFI’s Public Relation and Media Communications Division, told Bangla Tribune.
