The ruling Awami League (AL), as well as the government, are seeking escape routes, says BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“The people have declined the Awami League and the government so they are now planning an escape and desperately taking its last-ditch attempts to oppress the people and the BNP,” he said on Saturday (Sept 8).
Speaking at a programme at the party offices in the city’s Nayapaltan, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The government is scrambling to hold on sensing its fall. They are desperately trying to hold an election (without their political rivals) to stay in power.”
“But, the people will not accept any polls without the political opponents (of AL),” claimed the senior BNP leader.
The AL won’t be able to cling on power, Mirza Fakhrul said before adding “They (AL) have isolated themselves from the people.”
On a possible political collation, Mirza Fakhrul said that they are working on it and hope it will be successful.
Everyone will have to make compromises to form a coalition, he said.
