The alliance of eight left parties has decided to lay siege to the Election Commission and the Secretariat as part of its large-scale movement ahead of the next general election, alliance leaders said.
They will lay siege to the Secretariat on Aug 11 protesting the corruption in all sectors including banks and besiege the EC office on Aug 20 demanding a free, fair and credible election.
The decision came from a meeting of the eight-party ‘Bam Ganatantrik Jote’ on Aug 19, which the leaders said will be announced at a press conference later.
The alliance will also hold demonstrations across the country on Sept 10 demanding dissolution of the current parliament.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, one of the alliance leaders Mujahidul Islam Selim said, “We have waged many movements and more to come in next.”
“Programme to besiege the EC and the Secretariat was scheduled for this month (August), but we will stage it in the next month (September), said Selim, who is also the president of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).
The alliance leaders, however, will review their protest programmes one more time before starting the demonstration.
Ganatantrik Biplobi Party General Secretary Moshrefa Mishu told Bangla Tribune, “We want to maximise our time throughout September and October... We will sit on Aug 30 again to review the overall political scenarios.”
“The alliance will spread its movement across Bangladesh in coming days,” said Mishu.
On Jul 18 this year, the CPB, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BaSaD), Ganasanghati Andolan and five other left parties announced the formation of coalition styled the ‘Bam Ganatantrik Jote’.
The other parties in the alliance are BaSaD (Marxist), the United Communist League of Bangladesh, Ganatantrik Biplobi Party and Samajtantrik Andolan.
