BNP leader Mahmuda Habiba and her husband have been detained by law enforcers, claims her family.
Habiba, who heads the party’s committee for information, publicity and publication affairs, started for Dhaka from Chattogram by road on Friday (Aug 9) morning, her brother Asif Abdullah told Bangla Tribune.
“They started around 9am and we were in touch until 1:30pm, when they went missing,” he said on Saturday.
According to him, they came to know around midnight that his sister and brother-in-law were detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
“When we went to the RAB-4 offices, they, however, denied. The Uttara police station refused to lodge a general diary over the incident,” said Abdullah before adding that his brother-in-law, an apparel businessman, is not involved in politics.
The RAB said they had no knowledge of detaining the couple.
“I have no information yet on their detention,” Assistant Superintendent Sajidul Alam, an operations officer with RAB-4, told Bangla Tribune.
The Uttara police also confirmed they had not detained the BNP leader.
“No one by that name is either arrested or detained by us,” Duty Officer Sub Inspector Sujan Ahmed said.
