The verdict of the 21 August grenade attack will possibly be delivered next September.
Court deliberations are ongoing over the accused in the attack, former state minister for home, Lutfozzaman Babar.
After this ends, the date of the case will be fixed by Dhaka speedy trial court-1 judge Shahed Nur Uddin.
In the grenade attack on an AL rally on 21 August, 2004, 22 persons, including AL’s women affairs secretary Ivy Rahman was killed.
The current number of accused in the case is 49. Of them four are fugitives.
Meanwhile, DGFI’s former director, Maj Gen (retd) ATM Amin Ahmed, Lt Col (retd) Saiful Islam Joardar, former police DIG, Khan Sayeed Hassam and former DC of Dhaka (east) Obaidur Rahman will not get lawyers since they are not accused under 302.
On Tuesday (August 7), deliberations were presented on behalf of former state minister for home, Babar. If the court orders, then Babar will also be allowed to make some comments.
After this, the state will present their case and eventually set a date for delivering the verdict.
Of the 49 accused, 18 are fugitive; eight are on bail and 23 in prison.
