Minister Shajahan Khan served with legal noticeShipping Minister Shajahan Khan has been served with legal notice to explain the grounds on being cabinet member and the executive president of Bangladesh Transport Workers’ Federation.
The notice sent by Supreme Court lawyer Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan gave 24 hours to respond.
“We will move the High Court if he does not respond,” Bhuiyan told Bangla Tribune on Thursday after sending the notice.
Being the chief of the country’s largest transport workers’ organisation Shajahan faces criticism for taking the transporters’ side when any accidents occur or the workers do something wrong.
The legal notice says, Shajahan has been elected an MP unopposed in the Jan 5 2014 election and was sworn in as a minister a week later.
As a minister he cannot serve the the workers federation as it is a collective bargaining agency (CBA), which is supposed to conduct negotiations with the government on behalf of workers as well as take actions against workers committing offences, it said.
The notice sought Shajahan’s explanation within 24 hours over why his designation with the workers’ body will not conflict with the Constitution as well as morally questionable.
