Local people have staged demonstration in Tejgaon area of Dhaka prompting business conglomerate Akij Group to halt the construction of a hospital for treating patients infected with coronavirus.
More than a hundred residents took to the streets on Saturday (Mar 28) afternoon in Tejgaon industrial area defying the government ban on gathering amid the prevailing situation.
They also attacked the construction workers during the hour-long demonstration that started around 1pm, police said.
Tejgaon industrial police station OC Ali Hossain said local councillor Md Shafiullah and police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
"The situation is calm now. We talked to the home minister as the area falls under his constituency. He will make the decision over the matter," the OC added.
