Journalist Ariful IslamThe High Court (HC) has ordered police to lodge the attempted murder case against former Kurigram District Magistrate Sultana Pervin and her accomplishes whilst also stayed for six months a mobile court order sentencing Bangla Tribune's Kurigram Correspondent Ariful Islam to jail for a year on allegations of narcotics possession.

A High Court vacation bench comprising Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir passed the order, also asking the officer-in-charge of the concerned police station to accept Ariful’s allegations against former Kurigram deputy commissioner Sultana Pervin, mobile court magistrate and other as first information report.

“The court also issued a rule asking as to why it shall not declare illegal and scrap the proceedings of sentencing Ariful by that mobile court,” advocate Ishrat Hasan, who moved a writ in this regard, told newsmen.

Ariful, the Kurigram correspondent of online news portal Bangla Tribune, was jailed for one year and fined Tk50,000 for "possessing narcotics" by a mobile court at the dead of the night.
The local administration claimed that the journalist was arrested with 450ml of local liquor and 100g hemp.
But Ariful's wife Mostarima Sardar Nitu claimed that a group of law enforcement officials entered their home at Charuapara in the early hours of Saturday and took him away forcefully without giving any reason.
After getting bail and hospitalized on Sunday, Ariful said he was tortured by the magistrates.
