Gonoshasthaya Kendra has claimed to have developed its own Covid-19 rapid testing kit, at a time when many in the country doubt whether Bangladesh has enough testing kits.





In a statement on Tuesday, the hospital said it was now awaiting permission from authorities concerned in this regard.
"We hope to produce the testing kits to labs and vendors and with regulatory measures from the government at a cost of Tk200 each, while general people can do the test within Tk300, " the statement read.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury said the kit, jointly developed by a team from Singapore and Gonoshasthaya-RNA Biotech Limited, comes to reduce testing kit scarcity in Bangladesh.
Jahangirnagar University Associate Professor Nihad Adnan, who is a member of the hospital's kit-developing team, said the test will give a clear indication whether anyone is infected with Covid-19 or not and the need to undergo further testing.
"If Directorate General of Drug Administration gives approval the kit will be ready for production within one month and will be available in two to three weeks," he added.
