In a statement on Tuesday (Mar 17), the national flag carrier said the suspension of flights along the Dhaka-Kuala Lampur route came into effect after the Malaysian government imposed a national lockdown due to COVID19 outbreak.

Md Mokabbir Hossain, managing director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the matter and said the suspension will continue till Mar 31, 2020.

“As per the decision taken by the Malaysian government, only Malaysian nationals will be allowed to enter the country during the lockdown period,” he added.

On Monday, Biman decided to suspend its flights to Oman as the country clamped a travel ban on all foreigners entering it.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar suspended all flights with Bangladesh due to the pandemic.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen earlier declared that people from Europe and other nations such as Saudi Arabia, which restricted Bangladeshis’ entry into their territories over the coronavirus, could not enter Bangladesh till Mar 31.

The ban, however, excludes those who would be travelling from Britain to Bangladesh.
