The government will withdraw Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Sultana Parvin after a probe committee found proof of her being involved in journalist Ariful Islam being picked up from his home in the dead of the night and sent to jail by a mobile court.
State Minister for public administration Farhad Hossain told the media on Sunday (Mar 15), that departmental action will be taken against her and she will be withdrawn.
“Not only the DC, action will be taken against those employees involved,” he said.
He added that the government or the public administration ministry will not take responsibility of such employees.
The state minister said that he is yet to receive a signed copy of the report but the draft will be final report.
Responding to queries on journalist Ariful being compensated, he said that no proof of the allegations against him was found and he would be proven innocent.
Ariful, the Kurigram correspondent of Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune, ran a report on DC Sultana trying to name a local pond after her. Moreover, he had prepared reports on her various irregularities.
On March 14, the journalist was sent to jail, soon after a mobile court, set up at the office of the Kurigram deputy commissioner (DC), ended the trial proceedings.
The mobile court in the dead of night jailed the journalist for a year, after law enforcement members led by magistrates picked him up from his home in Kurigram town.
The mobile court brought an allegation against the journalist that drugs and alcohol were recovered from his possession, which his family termed absurd.
