HC scraps GK Shamim's bail order

G K ShamimThe High Court has withdrawn the order that granted bail to expelled Jubo League leader GK Shamim in an arms case.




The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman gave the order on Sunday.
During the hearing, the state lawyer Deputy Attorney General Fazlur Rahman informed the court that the expelled Jubo League leader mentioned his name differently in his bail petition and the court's cause list on February 6.
SM Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim mentioned his name as "SM Golam" in his bail petition and "SM Golam Kibria" in the cause list.
Responding to the information, the court said the court had granted bail to GK Shamim as it was confused by the names.
Earlier in the day, the state filed a recall petition against GK Shamim's bail order, granted by the same bench.
On February 4 and February 6, GK Shamim secured bail in two of the cases filed against him for keeping arms and drugs, his lawyer Advocate Sawkat Osman told Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.
He also said that on February 6, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman granted a six-month bail to Shamim in the arms case.
However, he needs to secure bail in two more cases in order to be freed from custody, Sawkat added.
On September 20, 2019, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested GK Shamim and seized Tk1.80 crore in cash, Tk165.27 crore worth of fixed deposit receipts (FDR), alcohol and firearms, from his Niketon office in Dhaka's Gulshan area.
