The High Court has issued a rule asking why the withdrawal of a Pirojpur judge who scrapped the bail plea of a former ruling party lawmaker, shouldn’t be declared illegal.
The secretaries to the law and parliamentary affairs ministry have been asked to respond to the rule by Mar 11.
The bench of justices Tariq-ul-Hakim and Md Iqbal Kabir gave the order on Wednesday (Mar 4) after Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand brought media reports regarding the transfer to the court’s attention.
On Mar 3, Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Md Abdul Mannan scrapped the bail plea of former Awami League lawmaker for Pirojpur-1 AKM Awal and his wife and ordered them to be sent to jail over a graft case.
The law ministry transferred the judge that very day and Awal and his wife were granted bail within four hours.
