But Dhaka University does not want to go into this system with teachers opposing it at the academic council of the university.
Representatives plus Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) members also voted not going for the integrated system.
President Hamid took part in the university’s convocation programme and called on public universities to take an integrated admission exam.
While many universities responded to the call, the teachers of Dhaka University academic council opposed this.
On Saturday (Feb 8), a meeting was held with former vice-chancellors (VCs), academics and deans of several departments and most expressed their opinion against an integrated admission exam.
The main impediment is the autonomy of Dhaka University which upholds the individuality of the institution by the 1973 order.
President of the University Teachers’ Association, ASM Maksud Kamal, said the university has a 1973 ordinance by which the admission exams are held. Everything depends on the academic councils.
VC Akhataruzzaman, said, “The Dhaka University is run as per the 1973 ordinance in a democratic way and therefore, a decision of the quorum is essential before any decision is taken.”
