PHOTO/mmch.gov.bdThe Sheikh Hasina Medical College project in Jamalpur has been amended four years after approval and now the project has been presented as Sheikh Hasina Medical College and Hospital and Nursing College by the ECNEC.
As a result, the project expenditure will rise.
The health department will implement the project at the initiative of the ministry of health and family planning. The project aims to provide improved medical treatment at an affordable price, create employment along with serving people from nearby districts.
The project, which began in 2016, will end by Jun 30, 2021 at a cost of Tk 9.5 billion. The government will give Tk 6.7 billion while Tk 2.8 billion will be provided by Indian Line of Credit (LoC).
As per the project plan, a six storied hospital with foundation for ten stories will be constructed and a six storied academic building with a foundation for 8 floors.
For the hospital, 35 acres of land will be acquired.
Planning Minister MA Mannan said: “Once this is implemented, the healthcare of people around the area will be ensured and people won’t have to travel to Dhaka for better treatment.”
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque added: “The hospital is being built to provide modern facilities and through this the people of Jamalpur will get top class treatment.”
