Fire at Mirpur’s Chalantika slum doused

Photo/Nashirul IslamFire that broke out at Chalantika slum in the capital’s Roopnagar area has been doused.

The blaze erupted around 4.10am on Friday (Jan 24), said fire service official.

It took more than 1.30 hours for 15 fire fighting units to tame the flames, said Fire Service and Civil Defence control room operator Ziaur Rahman.

"The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately," said Rahman.

Two people were injured in the incident and have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The victims have been identified as 35-year old Parvin and 20-year-old Shahidul Islam.

On Aug 16 last, a fire broke out at Chalantika slum, burning more than a thousand shanties to ashes.
