The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to introduce a uniform entrance test for all public universities in the country from the 2020-2021 academic session.
The decision came at a meeting between UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah and vice-chancellors (VCs) of public universities at it offices in Dhaka on Thursday (Jan 23), said a statement.
It said students who passed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examinations will sit for the test based on the high school curriculum for humanities, business studies and sciences.
The governing bodies of universities “will discuss with the VCs of some selected universities, including the four operated under the 1973 ordinance to outline the detailed test method,” the statement said quoting Prof Shahidullah.
The UGC’s move came after repeated calls from the country’s leaders including President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the last few years to go for a unified entrance test for universities.
