The revised schedules for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams have been published, pushing back the first test to Feb 3 from the previously announced Feb 1.
The education ministry announced the deferring of the school-leaving exams on Saturday (Jan 18), but the revised schedule has been published on Sunday (Jan 19), said Dhaka Education Board Chairman Md Ziaul Haque, who also heads the Inter-Education Board Sub-Committee.
Saturday's announcement by the ministry came barely minutes before the Election Commission's announcement to push back the voting in the Dhaka City polls to Feb 1 from Jan 30 as it coincided with the Hindu festival of Saraswati Puja.
Sources at the education ministry confirmed that the decision to defer the public exam for tenth-graders was taken of Friday (Jan 17). However, the announcement was made the next day.
As many as 2,047,771 students will sit for the secondary school completion tests this year at 3,512 centres across Bangladesh.
According to the revised schedule, theory exams are to be held from Feb 3 to Feb 27 while practical exams between Feb 29 and Mar 5.
