National daily Prothom Alo's Editor Matiur Rahman and four others moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bails in a case over the death a Dhaka Residential Model College student, who was electrocuted during an event organised by the newspaper’s magazine for juveniles 'Kishor Alo' on the school campus.
Petitions have been filed on Sunday (Jan 19) with bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque.
On Thursday (Jan 16), a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate ordered arrests of ten people, including the newspaper's Associate Editor Anisul Huq who edits the Kishor Alo magazine.
On Nov 1 last year, ninth-grader Nayeemul Abrar was electrocuted by a power generator during a Kishor Alo- organised event.
The accident happened when Nayeemul, unfortunately, went close to the live wires set up for a power generator behind the main stage.
As soon as he was electrocuted, the organisers took him to a medical camp set up at the venue. He was then taken to the Universal Medical College Hospital at Dhaka's Mohakhali, where the doctors declared him dead.
The teenager's father Md Mojibur Rahman started a case on Nov 6 alleging his son died "due to negligence."
