The Election Commission (EC) has allotted polls symbols to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election candidates.
DNCC Returning Officer Md Abul Kashem announced the allotments of to mayor and councillor aspirants at the Agargaon’s National Institute of Local Government in the capital on Friday (Jan 10).
On the same day, DSCC Returning Officer Abdul Baten made the announcement for aspirants of Dhaka South at Sadeque Hossain Khoka Community Center in the capital.

The EC has allotted ‘boat’ for Awami League’s Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, ‘sheaf of paddy’ for BNP’s Ishraque Hossain, ‘plough’ for Jatiya Party’s Hazi Mohammad Saifuddin Milon, ‘hand fan’ for Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Abdur Rahman, ‘mango’ for NPP’s Baharane Sultan Bahar, ‘coconut’ for Bangladesh Congress’s Aktaruzzaman and ‘fish’ for Gonofront’s Abdus Samad Sujon in DSCC polls.
In DNCC polls, ‘boat’ has been allotted to Awami League’s Atiqul Islam, ‘sheaf of paddy’ for BNP’s Tabith Mohammed Awal, ‘hand fan’ for Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Sheikh Md Fazle Bari Masud, ‘mango’ for NPP’s Md Anisur Rahman Dewan and ‘sickle’ for Communist Party Bangladesh’s Ahammad Sajedul Hauqe.
Meanwhile, the polls symbols have been allotted to all valid councillor candidates of the two city polls.
As many as 335 candidates and 251 candidates are vying for councillors in respectively DSCC and DNCC.
For women’s reserved wards, there are 82 contestants for DSCC polls and 77 for DSCC polls.
Elections to the Dhaka North and South city corporations are slated for Jan 30. The commission has said that the entire balloting will be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Along with electing the mayors, voters in North will also elect 54 ward councillors and 18 reserved women councillors while in South 75 ward councillors and 25 reserved women councillors.
