The Dhaka University second-year student who was raped in Dhaka’s Kurmitola has been released from hospital.
“The girl is doing better now and is in sound condition,” Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) chief AKM Nasiruddin told media on Thursday (Jan 9).
The medical board, which was formed for her treatment, has decided to release her on Thursday after reviewing her condition, he added.
“We told the student to come to the hospital if she feels ill or faces any problems. She will get complete support from here,” he said.
Citing a letter to the hospital authorities by the victim’s father, Nasiruddin said, “DMCH, law enforcing agencies and her university was by the side of her for the entire time.”
According to the case filed by the victim’s father, the second-year DU student was being followed by an unknown person after she got off from the university's bus at Kurmitola stoppage on Sunday (Jan 9).
He then dragged her into a bush in a nearby secluded place and raped her sometime between 7 and 8 pm.
The suspect also took away the victim’s mobile phone, a watch, a bag and Tk 2,000 in cash, according to the case details.
After she regained consciousness at 10pm, she visited her friend’s house by autorickshaw and told her about the incident.
Later, her classmates arrived and took her to the university’s hall. She was admitted to the DMCH after midnight.
On Tuesday (Jan 7), the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a suspect, who has been identified as Majnu, 30, from the capital's Shewra rail crossing at Kurmitola.
According to the elite force, the suspect confessed during initial interrogation and that the victim identified him through a photograph.
On Thursday, the court granted the police seven-days to interrogate Majnu in custody.
