The Election Commission (EC) has prohibited launching any kind of grant or aid projects at electorates until the results of the polls to the two Dhaka city corporations are published.
On Saturday (Jan 4), the EC has served concern ministries and directorates with a notice, which said the restriction would not apply for ongoing projects at the Dhaka metropolitan area.
“The decision has been taken to avoid influences over the polls. No project related to grant, relief can be undertaken in the electoral areas before the polls end,” reads the notice.
“District administration should operate any essential projects of grant or relief, which must be initiated in this period,” it added.
The EC has declared valid thirteen aspirants out of 14 vying for the mayoral posts of Dhaka North and South cities on Thursday (Jan 2).
Voting to the elections is slated for Jan 30.
