The National Textbook Festival will be celebrated at all primary and secondary level educational institutions across the country on Jan 1.
Over 353 million free textbooks would be distributed among almost 43 million students.
National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Narayan Chandra Saha said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the ceremony from her Ganabhaban residence at 10 am after which Education Minister Dipu Moni will officially distribute the books.
NCTB sources said that nearly 106 million primary school students and nearly 248 million secondary school students will get free books.
“The books are of a good standard. The dishonest printers didn’t get the chance to print bad copies,” said NCTB chief Saha.
Since 2010 when the government started distributing free books, till 2019, nearly 3 billion books have been distributed.
According to sources this year, the government spent Tk 11 billion to print the books, nearly a billion less than last year.
