Farmers Bank ex-audit chief's family told to surrender

File photo shows front of Farmers Bank Ltd Motijheel branch officeThe High Court (HC) has ordered wife and daughter of Mahbubul Haque Chishti, the former audit chairman of Farmers Bank Ltd to surrender before the trial court over a case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
The accused are Chishti’s wife Rozy Chishti and daughter Rimi Chishti.
On Tuesday (Dec 24), an HC bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir has passed the order, following the denial of separate anticipatory bail plea filed by the duo.
According to the central bank, big sums of money are in default which was disbursed as loans. 57.82 percent of loans, disbursed by the Farmers Bank, is in default. Until September, the bank gave out Tk 53.11 billion among which nearly Tk 30.71 billion is in default while in last June the default amount was Tk 15 billion.
On Dec 15, ACC has filed a case against the two accused over amassing Tk 373.8 million worth wealth and money laundering.
