10 to hang for Mymensingh businessman murder

A court has sentenced 10 people to death over the murder of a businessman in Mymensingh 12 years ago.

Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Zafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman gave the order on Tuesday (Dec 24).

The convicts are: Ekhlas Uddin Jewel, Abul Kashem alias Bacchu, Kabir Mia, Abul Kashem, Badal Mia, Faruk Mia, Ruma Akter, Abul Kalam Azad, Chandan and Shukkur Ali alias Ashraf Ali.

Amongst them Faruk Mia and Ruma Akter were tried as fugitives.

Meanwhile, seven others Aftab Uddin alias Akram Ali, Badrul Alam alias Badrul, Ismail Hossain, Kajal Mia, Rafik, Abu Siddiq and Dulal, were acquitted.

According to the case dossiers, Majharul Islam Paltan, a medicine trader in Mymensingh’s Nandail, was killed on Mar 28, 2007.

The killers hit him on the head, left the body tied to a bamboo stick within the shop and locked it from outside.

On Mar 1, 2007, Paltan’s sister Beauty Akhter filed a case with Nandail police over the murder.

On Jan 31 next year, the investigating officer, Nandail police Inspector Jashim Uddin charged 18 people over the incident.
