Cold-related illness on the rise across Bangladesh

A total of 4,254 people have been infected with different cold related illness including acute respiratory infection, and diarrhoea in 24 hours across the country, says a compilation data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room.
Among them, 720 took treatment for acute respiratory infection, 1,741 for diarrhoea, and 1,741 for other diseases that includes jaundice, inflammation in the eye, skin diseases, and fever.
However, no death has been reported in the last 24 hours.
Among the people treated by government hospitals, highest 1,322 people took treatment from Chittagong, followed by 842 people from Dhaka, 705 people from Khulna, 362 people from Rangpur, 348 from Mymensingh, 297 from Sylhet, 225 from Barisal, and 153 from Rajshahi.
On the other hand, a total of 247,273 patients were hospitalized from Nov 1 to Dec 21, the DGHS data shows.
49 deaths were reported across the country because of winter related diseases, the statement mentions.
DGHS Assistant Director Ayesha Akhter said the actual number of infected people will be much higher as the government data only covers the information provided by the government hospitals.
