Chinese national Gao Jian Hu, whose body was found buried in behind his house in Banani, was killed by security guards for cash, said the police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten disclosed the information during a media call on Wednesday (Dec 18).
Earlier, police arrested the security guards Rouf and Enamul, who were living on the rooftop of Gau Jian’s home. They reportedly confessed to the murder.
ADC Baten said that Rouf and Enamul entered the residence on Dec 10, asphyxiated Jian with a towel and took Tk 349,000 in cash.
They buried the body in the backyard and went back to duty, he added.
“They knocked Gao Jian’s house and asked for water. Immediately after he opened the door, Enamul tied the towel around his neck and Rouf held him by the waist,” he said.
He added that Gao Jian died within a few minutes and they took the cash and mobile.
He said that the Chinese national’s driver and maid started looking for him after seeing blood in the sandals and driver Sultan called the police after seeing Jian’s ankles sticking out from the ground at the back of the house.
According to the police, the accused divided the money amongst themselves and Tk 21,500 has been recovered and the rest sent to relatives through bKash.
They said that the towel used to kill him and the equipment used to bury the body have also been recovered.
On Dec 11, 50-year-old businessman Gao Jian Hu was found dead in the garden of his Banani apartment complex in Dhaka.
He was a stone importer who had been living with his family in flat 6/B, house no 82 on road no 23, Block K, Banani for the last one year, but his family members had gone back to China in November.
