ACC to probe eight PWD engineers

SAZZAD HOSSAIN/File PhotoThe Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will probe into the wealth of eight engineers of the government's Public Works Department (PWD), including Chief Engineer Dr Mainul Islam and Moslehuddin. The engineers are believed to be have colluded with controversial contractor GK Shamim.
The ACC has found evidence of corruption against two additional Chief Engineers of the works department.
ACC sources say they are almost convinced of the truth of the accusations made against Dr Mainul and Moslehuddin. Efforts are underway to gather evidence against the others.
They will question 11 officials of the works department for assisting MR Shamim in accumulating illegal wealth, money laundering and abuse of power on Dec 18, 19 and 23.
During questioning, they will be asked about their wealth and assets.
Accusations against engineer Mainul include: 1. Indiscipline, 2. Absence from work from Jan 1, 2005 till Sept 20, 2014. He was relieved from job but got back after appeal 3. Manipulated tender to give work to GK Shamim, 4. Corruption in the construction of Independence Pillar at Suhrawardy Udyan, 5. Involvement in the graft riddled purchase of pillows and other products for the Rooppur Power Plant.
Accusations against Moslehuddin include: 1. irregularities during 8th national parliament, 2. Promoted to additional engineer with help from GK Shamim, 3. Got transferred to Dhaka works department from Chattogram, spending Tk 30 million. 4. Known as a Mr fifteen percent for taking commission from all projects.
