International Crime Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo says it was disappointing that his name came up in the list of 10,789 Razakars, the Bengalis who collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces during the 1971 Liberation War.
“I get allowance from the government as a Freedom Fighter and my name is on the list of Razakars!"
Speaking to the media at his offices on Tuesday (Dec 17), he called for opening an inquiry over how names of Freedom Fighters came up in the list of collaborators.
"I demand proper actions against [those behind]," he added.
His remarks came while responding to queries after ICT Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon read out a written statement of Tipoo, who was made the chief prosecutor of the tribunal to try war criminals in 2010.
Tipoo said he hopes that the Liberation War affairs ministry would realise its mistake and amend the list immediately.
On Sunday (Dec 15), Liberation War ministry has published a primary list of local collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces after reviewing the files of the home ministry. Soon, presence of some Freedom Fighters’ name on the list has sparked widespread criticism across the country.
