Amar Desh acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman has secured a six-week anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case accusing him of slandering the nation’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On Sunday, the bench of justices AKM Asaduzzaman and SM Maniruzzaman granted bail to retired bureaucrat-turned-editor.

On Dec 10, a Sunamganj-based leader of the Awami League’s student affiliate filed the case over Mahmudur’s alleged derogatory remarks made while addressing a discussion in Dhaka on Dec 1.

On Jul 26, the Sunamganj court issued a warrant against Mahmudur in the case.
