Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)A 26-year-old woman has died allegedly due to the negligence of the authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital (BSMMU) where she was admitted with water retention in her legs and blood pressure issues.
Tasmia Huq Hia was admitted to the hospital on Sept 5, under Nephrology Department Professor Rafiqul Alam, her father Mozammel Huq told Bangla Tribune.
“With water retention in her legs and blood pressure, my daughter, Tasmia Huq, was admitted to the hospital at the advice of nephrology professor Dr Rafiqul Islam but he did not come to visit my daughter,” he said.
He added that Tasmia died two days after the admission.
Meanwhile, Professor Islam said that he was not informed of the patient.
The father alleges that the doctor did not respond after admitting his daughter to the hospital.
He said that his daughter was given KT injection after which her condition deteriorated and soon she was transferred to the High Dependency Unit. “But KT injection was not mentioned in the case history.”
Meanwhile, several people at BSMMU have termed such incidents to be normal.
They said that there are certain guidelines for administering KT injection which was not followed as it should be given in low dose and slowly but instead was given swiftly which resulted in cardiac arrest; worse still, the injection was not mentioned in the case sheet.
Admitting that he did not visit the girl, the doctor said: “I did not know that the girl has been admitted.”
The girl was admitted on a Thursday and on Saturday, chairman of Nephrology, Dr Asia Khatun, went to see the patient; the patient’s pressure was low and her condition deteriorated and she eventually died.”
VC of BSMMU, Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, said: “The probe committee is working and we have taken accounts from all sides. We will soon release a report.”
