HC bail for 23 BNP leaders in motorcycle arson cases

The High Court has granted bails to 23 senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in cases filed over the alleged arson of motorcycles in front of the Supreme Court.
On Sunday (Dec 15), the bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md. Riaz Uddin Khan granted eight weeks anticipatory bails to the BNP leaders in the cases started by the Shahbagh police in Dhaka.
The other senior leaders, who secured bails, includes Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdullah Al Noman, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Fazlul Haque Milon, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas,Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Shafiul Bari Babu, Advocate Zainul Abedin, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
On Dec 11, a day before the Supreme Court rejected bail to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, unidentified miscreants set ablaze three motorcycles in the area. One bike was set on fire in the southeast corner of Eidgah, one in front of the Eidgah main gate and one in front of the Bar Council, according to eyewitnesses.
No one was seen at the scene during the incident.
The next day police started two cases. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi are named as suspects in both cases.
As many as 70 people have been implicated in one case while the other has 65 suspects.
