Keraniganj plastic factory fire deaths rise to 14

The death toll from the Keraniganj plastic factory fire has climbed to 14, as another victim succumbed to burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The victim 14-year-old Asad died around 7:45am on Saturday (Dec 14), said resident medical officer Dr Partho Sarkar Pal.
Around 17 burn victims are still receiving treatment at both Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The other 13 deceased were identified as Salauddin, 35, Bablu Hossain, 26, Abdul Khalek Khalifa, 35, Rayhan Biswas, 16, Imran, 18, Jinarul Islam Mollah, 32, Md Alam, 35, Md Sujon, 19, Md Jahangir Hossain, 55, Faisal, 29, Omar Faruk, 32, Mehedi Hossain, 20, and Mahbub Hossain, 26.
On Wednesday (Dec 11) around 5pm, a fire broke out at Keraniganj, killing one worker on spot while 34 were taken to DMCH with burn injuries.
As many as 10 fire fighting units worked to douse the fire. They said that the fire may have been caused by a gas-pipe leakage.
Meanwhile, after primary investigations, the Fire Service and Civil Defence found the factory owner was negligent in addressing the fire hazard issues.
Local MP Nasrul Hamid Bipu, who went to DMCH, to visit the victims, said that the factory didn’t have any government approval.
