The Appellate Division has started court proceedings under CCTV surveillance for the first time in the history of Bangladesh.
Eight CCTV cameras were set up within the top court on Wednesday (Dec 11).
According to sources at the court, the cameras have been set up to identify those who try to create untoward incidents in the courtrooms.
On Dec 5, pro-BNP lawyers created chaos in the courtroom after the Appellate Division deferred the appeal hearing of party chief Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Following the unprecedented incident, on Dec 8, lawyer Rashida Chowdhury Nilu sent a legal notice to Supreme Court registrar general, and Appeal and High Court registrar general seeking safety measures within the courtrooms.
