The United Nation (UN) agencies do not maintain transparency when it comes to themselves although they expect others to do it, claimed graft watchdog Transparency International Bangladesh.

“We have asked the UN for information on the operational cost of the Rohingya program several times,” TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman told the media on Thursday (Dec 5).

“They told us that the lowest was 3 percent and the highest was 32 percent which is their operational cost. But they themselves don’t implement the programs. It is done by the agencies,” he added.

Iftekharuzzaman said that the operational cost is being counted twice given that the costs of the agencies are usually included within the program budget.

“Only an organisation can give specific information about the operational costs. But they themselves don’t want to publish the information,” he said before adding that despite the UN claiming to be a transparent organisation, it is not so.
